Reading is our Thing!
Our school highly values reading: Reading is our Thing!
Our staff use an Inquiry Cycle to
scan and assess current reading practices, consult our Reading Framework and investigate and trial best
practice and high yield strategies in reading in alignment with our whole school approach to Pedagogy. We continue to implement research-based practice in order to
develop competent readers and use data to inform individual learning goals for students based on regional
and school benchmarks and targets.
Staff and parent volunteers are trained to support students at the Learning to Read and Reading to Learn stages of reading using reading prompts and comprehension strategies.
Current student reading data is displayed on our Data Wall where students and adults can easily determine current reading levels, regional benchmarks and individual student reading targets and co construct next steps for reading challenges to allow students to "own their own learning".
Daily class time is allocated to individual, small group and whole class reading skills practice. Encouraging students to extend heir own learning and improve individual ability at their own pace assists students to improve academically in multiple key learning areas.
