Reading is our thing!
Our school highly values reading: Reading is our Thing!
Throughout 2018 our staff used an Inquiry Cycle to
scan and assess current reading practices, consult our Reading Framework and investigate and trial best
practice and high yield strategies in reading. We continued to implement research-based practice in order to
develop competent readers and used data to inform individual learning goals for students based on regional
and school benchmarks and targets.
Staff and parent volunteers are trained to support students at the Learning to Read and Reading to Learn stages of reading using reading prompts and comprehension strategies.
Every student is expected to attend the Reading Room each morning. Students are allocated staff or parent helpers depending on their level of support. Every student reads aloud to an adult each day and practices sight words and independent reading.
Current student reading data is displayed on a Face Wall where students and adults can easily determine current reading levels, regional benchmarks and individual student reading targets.
